In certain processes on TrustMe, a selfie verification may be requested to confirm your identity.
This step confirms that the person carrying out the process is indeed the same person shown on the ID document provided. It helps secure your journey and limit the risk of identity theft.
Currently, selfie verification is required for the various uses offered on TrustMe, except FranceConnect. These requirements may change over time depending on our partners’ needs and requirements.
Why does TrustMe ask me for a selfie?
The selfie is used to compare your face with the photo on your ID document.
This is an identity verification step, not just a simple photograph.
This check may notably be requested for processes carried out with certain partners, such as staffing agencies.
Even if your ID document has already been verified, the selfie confirms that you are indeed the person presenting this document at the time of the process.
How do I successfully complete my selfie verification?
To make your verification easier, we recommend following a few simple guidelines.
- complete the verification alone
- use the phone linked to your TrustMe account
- make sure your face is fully visible and unobstructed
- remove anything that could hide your face, such as sunglasses, hats, or caps
- if you wear glasses, it’s best to remove them so your face is as close as possible to the photo on your ID document
- position yourself in a well-lit environment
- make sure your phone’s camera is working properly
- look at the camera and carefully follow the instructions shown on screen
- take the selfie in real time — a photo already in your phone’s gallery cannot be used
Why might my verification fail?
Several situations can prevent TrustMe from validating your verification.
Your face is poorly framed
Your face must be fully visible and correctly positioned in front of the camera. Avoid being too close or too far from your phone, and make sure your face stays within the frame shown on screen.
The lighting isn’t suitable
An environment that’s too dark, or conversely too bright, can make your face difficult to analyze. Choose a well-lit location and avoid light sources pointed directly at your face.
Your face is hard to recognize
Your current appearance may be different from the photo on your ID document. A significant difference between your current appearance and your document’s photo may require an additional review.
This doesn’t necessarily mean your verification will be rejected. In some situations, a more thorough analysis may be needed.
The photo on your document is of poor quality
The quality of the photo on your ID document can also affect verification. If this photo is too dark, too light, or of poor quality, it can be harder to compare your face with the one on the document.
In this case, your file may need additional review by our teams.
Your phone’s camera has an issue
A dirty or faulty camera, or one that can’t capture a sufficiently sharp image, can also complicate verification. Before trying again, check that your phone’s lens is clean and that your camera is working properly.
Can I try again if my selfie is rejected?
Yes.
If your selfie verification fails, you can restart the process.
Before trying again, take a moment to check the shooting conditions and carefully follow the recommendations shown in the app.
Is my selfie stored by TrustMe?
Yes. The selfie taken as part of your verification is stored by TrustMe in accordance with the rules applicable to your identity data.
It’s also accessible to you as a user within the framework provided by TrustMe.
The data is kept for the same length of time as other data linked to your identity.
What to check before starting your selfie
To give yourself the best chance of success, check the following:
- you’re using the phone linked to your TrustMe account
- your camera is working properly
- your camera lens is clean
- your face is fully visible
- your face is correctly framed
- the room is well lit
- you’ve removed your hat, cap, and sunglasses
- you’ve removed your glasses, if possible
- you’re taking the selfie in real time
- you’re carefully following the instructions shown on screen
These few precautions help reduce the risk of failure and make it easier to validate your identity.
